The Plant Phenomics Platform consists of Scanalyzer 3D VIS, Scanalyzer 3D NIR and Scanalyzer 3D IR (Thermal) for acquiring plant images.

The images could be obtained from two side views (0° and after 90° horizontal rotation) and one top view in scanalyzers VIS, NIR and IR.

The visual images of the plants obtained through the Scanalyzer 3D VIS from two side views (0° and after 90° horizontal rotation) and one top view provide various digital features. The digital biomass and projected shoot area of the plants could be quantified using the pixels from the two side views and one top view.

Watering and weighing station: Enables to impose specific levels of water stress and also quantify the amount of water lost by the plant. The water use efficiency of genotypes tested could be quantified.

Highlights of importance and applications of instruments:

The facility functions on the principle of digital imaging of the individual plants. The growth of a same plant could be continuously monitored during the course of its development in a non invasive manner. Through digital image analysis the screening of large number of genotypes could be done in a high throughput manner. Hence, it provides a comprehensive and continuous analysis of plant growth and performance employing imaging and image analysis techniques. Comprehensive phenotyping through large-scale collection of phenotypic data and its analysis screening genotypes for water stress.

User instructions for sample preparation:

The plants have to be raised in pots of specific dimension at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru. Hence, the experiments need to be planned and seedlings of the genotypes being screened could be raised at ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.

ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru shall be duly acknowledged in publications.
